Builders League of South Jersey Scholarship Foundation announces scholarships available to area students attending trade schools & colleges

 

The Builders League of South Jersey Scholarship Foundation has announced scholarships are now available for area students for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year. Scholarships, ranging up to $2,000 will be awarded to students from southern New Jersey who will be matriculating in an accredited, post-secondary school and pursuing a course of study related to real estate and the construction industry.

The Foundation was funded with a donation from the Home Builders Foundation, a community service entity established by the Builders League in 1956 to help area residents in need, and by special donations from Builders League members. Since 1995, the Scholarship Foundation has awarded more than $111,093 to area students.

“The speed in which technology changes is rapidly changing the homebuilding industry, from the products we use to the services homeowners need to maintain their home,” said Builders League of South Jersey President Mitchell Zbik. “Homebuilding is many industries combined. As such, companies are looking for workers trained in the newest technologies. Trade schools and colleges are all responding to the growth in Green Building and alternative energies. Read more.

About the BLSJ Scholarship Foundation

 

The Builders League of South Jersey Scholarship Foundation offers scholarships to area students from southern New Jersey who will be matriculating in an accredited, post-secondary school and pursuing a course of study related to real estate and the construction industry.

The Foundation was funded with a donation from the Home Builders Foundation, a community service entity established by the Builders League in 1956 to help area residents in need, and by special donations from Builders League members. From 1995 to 2010, the Scholarship Foundation awarded more than $111,093 to area students.

The Scholarship Application Process is announced each January with applications available on this website, from school guidance programs, or by visiting scholarship-based websites. The deadline for application is usually the first week of April. Scholarships are awarded in May .

Applicants must live in or attend school in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Gloucester, Salem and Cumberland counties. Studies may be undertaken in qualified trade school programs as well as junior and four-year college university programs, according to BLSJ Scholarship Foundation President Susan Schaeffer. Students who are enrolled in programs part-time are also eligible.

Study fields may include, but are not limited to, air conditioning, plumbing and heating technology, architecture, civil engineering, construction management, CAD drafting, landscape architecture, real estate marketing and surveying.

Scholarships will be awarded in the form of a tuition payment directly to the institution of higher education. Students may reapply for the scholarship each year, as long as they continue their course of study. The application process is free.

Scholarship Programs

The National Housing Endowment, the philanthropic arm of NAHB, administers scholarship programs for students at the graduate and undergraduate level studying residential construction and related fields. Together with individual and corporate support, the National Housing Endowment is committed to the future of the building industry by creating educational opportunities for students across the country.

 

The National Housing Endowment International Builders’ Show Scholarship provides monetary support to NAHB Student Chapter members to help offset travel expenses related to attendance and participation in activities surrounding the annual International Builders’ Show.

 

Evans, an educator and consultant, has taught thousands of builders how to better manage their businesses. The Evans' endowed gift, along with the generous contributions of many of Mr. Evan's friends, colleagues and former students, created the scholarship fund to assist in addressing the pressing need for educating and training construction managers in the residential building industry.

 

The National Housing Endowment/Herman J. Smith Scholarship was created to honor Herman J. Smith and his lifelong commitment to the housing industry and the education of future generations of home builders.

 

Centex Homes established the Centex Homes/National Housing Endowment Build Your Future Scholarship in 1999. These scholarships provide tuition assistance to undergraduate students pursuing careers in the building industry.

 

The NAHB Professional Women in Building/National Housing Endowment Strategies for Success Scholarship Fund encourages students to further their education in housing industry related programs.

 

Various donors have also established funds that are targeted to students and scholars at particular institutions or programs or for purposes beyond direct tuition support to include fellowships and scholarly and field research.
